"The Fundamentals of our Economy are Strong"

... Says McCain. Didn't Hoover say that too? And this is after Fannie/Freddie, Bear and Lehman, and AIG and Merrill go down or are bought out?! Of course, McCain thinks the "fundamentals" are the hardworking americans, entrepreneurship and small business ... not the de-regulatory state of Wall Street, tax breaks for the wealthy, and out of control CEO paychecks. I'm glad Obama's having a hey-day with this ... he should. It's good for him to keep harping on this. Even if McCain's right about our "fundamentals" being strong - and this thing was unavoidable - I doubt American's are going to believe it when he essentially tells them they're fears aren't warranted.

UPDATE: Obama responds:

Says at an event in Pueblo, Colorado: “We know you meant what you said the first time because you’ve said it before.”

“And your chief economic advisor – the man who wrote your economic plan – said that we’re in a ‘mental recession;’ that this is all in our heads; that we’re a nation of whiners.”
