Misleading Talk Express

(via KKP) The one good thing about this Palin pick is that it has somehow prompted McCain to start making multiple lies every single day - and allowed him to repeat them in the face of common knowledge. Yglesias was all over this theme today ... and Krugman has a good article on it - claiming if campaigns are any indicator of governing, McCain/Palin will be worse than Bush/Cheney!
Why do the McCain people think they can get away with this stuff? Well, they’re probably counting on the common practice in the news media of being “balanced” at all costs. You know how it goes: If a politician says that black is white, the news report doesn’t say that he’s wrong, it reports that “some Democrats say” that he’s wrong. Or a grotesque lie from one side is paired with a trivial misstatement from the other, conveying the impression that both sides are equally dirty.

Let's just hope that the American people are at least smart enough to recognize these tactics for what they are.
