Meet the Mavericks

(via Syd O) the NYT has a piece on the original Sam Augustus Maverick and his progressive progeny. Also includes the history of the term (a Texan who refused to brand his cattle, so maverick came to mean "a man with no man's brand" ... it didn't tell you that that allowed him to round up all the other's cattle!). Anyway - a good short read.
