Toons

I like toons, especially the ones in the New Yorker. I've been trying to win the caption contest at the New Yorker for years now, but alas, I must suck at it.

I do have a quibble with the toon about government v. insurance bureaucrats. I'd much rather tangle with a private company than the government. I can take my business elsewhere if necessary. I can sue a private company if necessary.

And the incentives for a private company are much more on the side of accomodating me than the government. So, I don't think the cartoonist scores any points on this one.

I'll freely concede that dealing with insurance companies is largely pointless (I've had to do it recently and it can be very frustrating). But my guess is that dealing with the government wold be much worse. And I'm no health care expert, but isn't the reason that health insurance companies are so bureacratic a consequence of Clinton-era "managed care"?

Hang in there with bar prep...mike
