McCain's Speech

I thought McCain gave a good speech last night. We've all heard his story before - but he did an extra special job discussing career. He was serious and moving. He threw out some red meat but it wasn't toned sarcastically and demeaning like all the other GOP speakers had been. He threw W and the GOP under the bus for the last 8 years. However - after blasting Obama for giving a good speech but being short on specifics - that's EXACTLY what he did! I didn't hear any specifics on education ('cept "choice"), energy ('cept "drill"), health care ('cept "don't do too much"), Iraq ('cept "don't lose"), Afghanistan, etc. So, in short, he threw out the general Republican TP's on the general issues and is going to make the election about his image. Very short on depth. Once, when he did get specific he said this:
"I fight for Americans. I fight for you. I fight for Bill and Sue Nebe from Farmington Hills, Michigan, who lost their real estate investments in the bad housing market."
Investments?! For someone in Farmington Hills!! The swank suburb of Detroit!? Is that really where American's are getting hurt? Nevermind the unemployment numbers out today (highest in 5 years) or the housing crisis - we need help with our IRA's, capitol gains, and other investments that are cripiling the economy for rich people. Typical.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention, there weren't too many minorities at the convention. Did you notice that they had to fly in some blacks from Africa so Cindy McCain could point them out!?

I didn't think the speech was that moving, which actually brought me back down to earth after the Palin extravaganza. One thing that seemed glaring to me was John McCain went on and on about less government, cutting spending, cutting taxes and getting government out of the lives of citizens and in his next breath he talked about all the stuff he will do once he is in office. He (government) will build more nuclear power plants, he (gvernment) will tap solar power, wind power and geothermal power, he (government) will train new teachers, he (government) will find "bad teachers" new professions, he )government) will build up our military, he (government) will create new jobs that stay in this country, he will drill new oil wells. This seems to cntradict everything with which he started.

He was less vicious than his pals but he said, "Finally, a word to Sen. Obama and his supporters. We'll go at it over the next two months. That's the nature of these contests." I thought he was a reformer why not start with the "nature of these contests". The fact is Obama is running a different kind of campaign (no character attacks, no PAC money) and McCain is following business as usual which is surely what he will do if elected.
